Title Page and Inside Cover
The ornate title page of Kilian's Ulysses contains the book's extended title and short acknowledgments for each of the illustrators and authors who contributed to the finished text. Fruit, leaf, and flower motifs decorate the remaining space.
The inside cover of Kilian's Ulysses employs the "Antique Dutch" marbling technique that was popular during the Baroque period, originating in the near east and arriving in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries. This method of marbling is an incredibly complex and skilled craft, requiring water-based paints, ox gall, and a specific wooden marbling comb.
