Minerva Visits a Couple in Bed
Images of couples intimately and nonchalantly reclining in bed are frequent and reoccurring throughout Kilian's Ulysses. In this particular illustration, the goddess Minerva appears before the couple in a cloud of smoke, extending her arm and addressing the pair. The man's armor and weaponry are discarded at the bottom right of the composition, and a female figure can be seen walking through a doorway on the right. The juxtaposition between the soft fluidity bed's sheets and drapery and the rigid architecture of the building makes for a visually engaging engraving.
