Ulysses Kisses Minerva's Feet

Ulysses Kisses Athenas Feet.jpg

pg. 30

This selected page from Kilian’s Ulysses depicts the goddess Minerva, distinguished by her helmet and shield, appearing before Odysseus in a cloud of smoke in a rural setting. The smoke conceals them from the two small figures and dog in the background of the engraving, who sit amongst humble structures, engaged in conversation. Odysseus kneels before the goddess, kissing the ground before her, his weapon discarded at the edge of the composition, seemingly overwhelmed by her power and divinity.
