Hopes and Fears for Art : The Beauty of Life
William Morris’s critical essays and speeches are still widely read and appreciated today. This zine, purchased by the creator of this exhibit at the 2023 Boston Art Book Fair, contains the text of Morris’s 1880 speech, “The Beauty of Life,” which Morris delivered before the Birmingham Society of Arts and School of Design. This zine features illustrations by Tayler Jones with the text of the speech printed in a digital facsimile of Morris’s Golden type. The zine was published by Looky Here, a small press and community art space located in Greenfield, MA. Looky Here's goal of promoting accessibility in the arts and cultivating beauty in its community shows the press' role as a modern successor to Morris's original vision for the Kelmscott Press.
