In the dawn of the world : being twenty-five pictures illustrative of the book of Genesis

This book contains Latin and English text from the book of Genesis accompanied by woodcut illustrations by Edward Burne-Jones, Morris's longtime friend and close collaborator at the Kelmscott Press. These illustrations were meant for the Kelmscott Bible, the most ambitious project planned for the Kelmscott Press, but the Bible was never completed due to Morris’s death in 1896.

In the dawn of the world was published by the Merrymount Press in Boston, founded by Daniel Updike in 1893. Merrymount Press was known for its well-considered design and typography, having some of the same sensibilities as the Kelmscott Press. Eventually, Updike began prioritizing simpler designs for his books that emphasized functionality rather than the ostentatious detail of Kelmscott’s books, but he still maintained high standards for the design and quality of his books.
