Orders for Health
This page is found in the first section of the book which is entitled “Orders conceived and published by the Lord Mayor and Alderman of the City of London, concerning the infection of the Plague.” This section mainly addresses methods used and thought to be effective in preventing the spread of the plague throughout London. This particular page includes three sections. The first is the “Notice to be given of the Sickness.” This order states that within two hours of a house master or any member of a household falling ill as the result of a disease, notice must be given to the examiner of health. The second section discusses the “sequestration of the sickness.” This order declares that on the day an individual was confirmed sick, they must be sequestered in the house within which they were diagnosed. Should said person survive the disease the house must be shut for a month before it would be safe to enter. The last section is titled “Airing the Stuff.” It states that the belongings of an infected individual must be properly aired by fire and perfumes at the order of the examiner before they can be put to use again.
