Page 19. Written in French.

Included among other entries in English on the subject of matrimony, page 19 of Grose's text contains an entry written completely in French. This page contains a number of interesting printing characteristics, including written accent marks and variations in printed accent marks.

Zoomed in page 19. Accent marks.

Many of the words on page 19 are marked by common French accent marks. However, when looking closely, viewers can see that the accent marks are not printed uniformly. The accent aigus vary in length, width, and angle.

Type Cedilla.jpg

Zoomed in page 19. Cedilla.

Several letters on this page contain a cedille. All of the cedilla have been added in in pen.

Type Q Tail.jpg

Zoomed in page 19. Capital Q.

Rather than printing a capital Q, on this page, the letter O is printed and has had a tail added in pen to transform it into a Q.

The printer, however, did have the ability to print the letter Q, seen in the word "Queen" on page 57.
