Binding & Lettering Piece
The book is 21 centimeters long and printed in octavo format. It is bound in dark brown calf which appears only lightly worn. The face of the binding has minor scuffs and scratches, and the leather on the corners have been fairly worn down. The binding contains an impressed floral pattern lining a double border of gold. As stated on endpaper before the title page, the book was rebound by Jeffries & Son of Bristol in 1876. A red leather lettering piece on the spine reads “A Guide to Health Etc.” – the sides of which fray up slightly, possibly having been taken from an earlier binding. Though the book contains a copy of George Paul's "Thoughts on the Alarming Process of the Gaol Fever" in addition to Grose's text, this is not recorded anywhere on the spine.
