The text and melody of Ave virgo virginum appear in many areas throughout Europe, most notably in France and Southern Germany. This is a direct result of the standardization practices within the Dominican Order. Paris, where the Dominican Order was centered and the location from which standardization efforts stemmed, likely produced many of the sources which are known to have the sequence Ave virgo virginum, which seems to have spread outward from Paris beginning in the mid-to-late thirteenth century. The text and melody of the sequence Ave virgo virginum appear in these manuscripts with very few deviations from what appears to be the Dominican standard.
