Subscriber list
Subscription lists were a popular method in which an author could distribute their works in the Eighteenth-Century. Bryan compiled a massive list of hundreds of subscribers to contribute to her A Compendious System of Astronomy. Included on her list were influential and elite members of English society. Her first mentioned subscriber is the Archbishop of Canterbury and head of the Church of England. The Archbishop is noticeably mentioned first and is awarded larger lettering to begin his name on the subscription list.
Subscribers were vital to publishers if the Eighteenth Century as they allowed authors to gain funding to print expensive books, such as Bryan’s astronomy textbook. As pictured on the left, Bryan's vast network of subscribers highlights the importance and status she held within the academic society of Eighteenth Century London. The fist page listing subscribers includes 28 subscribers alone. The list is in alphabetical order and includes the proper title and full name of each of her subscribers.
