These images offer a closer look at the intricate details included in Ms. Spencer 50's illuminations. The initials (first letters) are gilded capital letters on either blue, red, or green backdrops.  The floral friezes further enhance the script with green leaves, brightly colored flowers and gilded filigree.  The study guide states that these letters were influenced by "Venetian miniature painting" and "ancient Roman epigraphic writing," (Labriola).  Also shows the script of copyist Demetrio Damilas, including, in red ink, the numbering of the Fables (to the left).
