Table 1
Table 1 depicts images of several remains explained in “Part 1: Of Animals” section of Grew’s book. The accompanying text describes the oddities in great detail. Specifically cataloging the “STONE voided from the Penis or Urethra of a Man who lived at Exeter,” Grew uses observation and measurements to define the appearance of the stone, and explains the process in which the stone forms in pronounced detail. The process’s great detail is not surprising because he gained an extensive medical education and was admitted to the College of Physicians as a fellow.[1] In addition, this shows the foundations of the Baconian model of science, which included acquiring knowledge through observation and experimentation.[2]
