Thomas Paine's Rights of Man 1791 (May 1, 2017)
An exhibit on Tuft's copy of the 7th edition of Thomas Paine's 1791 Rights of Man: Being an Answer to Mr. Burke's Attack on the French Revolution published by J.S. Jordan. The book is in the special collections sections in Tisch Library at Tufts University. It was published by J.S. Jordan despite political opposition. The book was dedicated to George Washington and was a call for universal rights of man and a defense of the French Revolution. The book was given to Tufts in 1947 by Charles Alvin Bean and was rebound the same year. There is marginalia, printer marks, foxing and the "descending s" in the book. The book was circulated until 2008.
