Boyle. Textual Elements.
Dublin Core
Title
Boyle. Textual Elements.
Subject
Science -- Early works to 1800.
Description
Images of textual elements from "Some Considerations Touching the Usefullnesse of Experimental Naturall Philosophy."
The first image shows a citation/footnote in the margin (which will be expanded on in the Citations section after the essay). Interestingly, the citation is a bible verse from Proverbs 13:19-20, perhaps unexpected in a natural science work such. The stylistic text use of "f" (or the "long s") instead of "s" is also visible on this page.
The second image shows a catchphrase word "Sea" at the lower corner of the page. Catchphrases are used throughout the book to show the reader the general subject matter of that particular page. They serve as an aid to both binding and reading.
The third image shows the gathering folio number of the particular page, "F2." For books of this era, folios were commonly used instead of single page numbers. However, in Boyle's work, there are page numbers on a majority of the pages, and only two bi-folios.
