Marginalia
Page iv in Grose's preface contains a small pencil marking in the margin with the label "(25)" and correspondingly a line through the printed number 23, which is meant to refer to the entry from Mr. Lattese. Every advertisment in the text is labeled with a number for reference. This mark was most likely a reader's correction to a misprint that had referenced the wrong number.
Advertisement Number XCII on page 57 of Grose's text contains four marginalia markings in pen. "Shall" is written next to the line of text reading "Nobody must not leave no Durt," and may have been a grammatical correction. Next to the printed word "wheel barrows," a word that may possibly read "cart" is written, though there is a space and the letter "a" written next to it that may have been followed by more letters which have been cut off. "Oyster" is written next to the printed phrase "cabbage stalks," followed by the letter "v" which may have served as an arrow.
