The cover of the book is embossed with a rectangle that is congruent to the dimensions of the book. It is bound in plain, dark brown leather. While the majority of the book's binding still holds, the front cover has been ripped clean from the rest of the text. Additional damage can be seen at the top of the spine, revealing head band and cords.

Provenance marks on the front pastedown and free paper of <em>The Present State of the Ottoman Empire</em> by Paul Rycaut. <br /><br />The content of the pencil marking on the front pastedown are written in pencil and may be a call number: AD860A57.<br /><br />On the following free pages, there are a list of numbers in brown ink. From top to bottom, they read as the following: 2015229; 386917; 628312; 2015229. The words to the right of these numbers imply that the book was held in Ireland by a Roman Catholic priest in the 18th Century (specifically 1732 & 1733).

Containing the Maxims of the Turkish Politie, the Most Material Points of the Mahometan Religious, their Sects and Heresies, their Convents and Religious Votaries, their Military Discipline, with an Exact Computation of their Forces both by Land and Sea.</em><br /><br /><em>Illustrated with diverse pieces of sculpture, representing the variety of habits amongst the Turks.</em><br /><br /><em>In three books.</em><br /><br /><em>By Paul Rycaut, Esq; Secretary to his Excellency the Earl of Winchilsea, Embassador Extraordinary for his Majesty Charles the Second, to Sultan Mahomet Han the Fourth, Emperour of the Turks.</em><br /><br /><em>London, printed for John Starkey and Henry Brome, at the Mitre between Middle-Temple-Gate and Temple Bar in Fleet-street, adn the Star in Little-Britain. 1668.</em>"<br /><br />The names are italicized in the text.<br /><br />The text is accompanied by an image of Sultan Mahomet. Page 43 displays an introductory image to Chapter XI: "Of the Visier Azem or Prime Visier, his Office, the other fix Visiers of the Bench, and the Divan or Place of Judicature."
The image itself is of "The Prime Vizier" atop a horse, surrounded by three men, all wearing different turbans to distinguish their role. There is a small stain within the engraving's picture plane.
The text to the left is the conclusion to the preceding chapter.
